According to the Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP), as of 2022, global usage of on-site sanitation stands at 46%, surpassing sewer connections at 42%. However, the prevalence of safely managed sanitation services is notably higher among households with sewer connections (33%) compared to those relying on on-site facilities (24%). Unfortunately, current data inadequacies prevent the estimation of regional or global proportions of individuals utilising on-site sanitation facilities with excreta emptied and treated off-site.
It is imperative to strengthen local data systems to monitor progress accurately and establish targets for safely managed sanitation services. This webinar aims to spotlight diverse initiatives aimed at strengthening sanitation data systems in South Asia.
